Whether you are getting CPR certified for your workplace or for personal reasons, a CPR certification is something that will prove useful in many ways. Aside from being an impressive addition to any CV, CPR proficiency can come in handy in situations that require first aid attention. If you are looking at How to Become First Certified, this is a good resource on learning to know-how.

CPR certification is an essential skill set that an individual can learn after attending one CPR class. It is a must for medical and health care professionals, home healthcare providers, childcare providers and all other professions that manage or supervise others. Anyone can enrol in a CPR course as it is a useful skill set that can be useful in emergencies, whether you are on the job or not.

Here are 3 Steps to Become CPR Certified:

  1. Sign up for an accredited CPR Training Class

In-person or blended learning courses are available in most Australian states and territories. You can find accredited CPR training courses through the websites of registered training organisations (RTOs), such as First Aid Course Melbourne.

Part of choosing a course is determining what kind of knowledge and skills you want to learn. You can sign up for HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the CPR component course only, or enrol in HLTAID011 Provide first aid for a more advanced course.

  1. Complete the Training

CPR training usually involves classroom theory learning paired with actual hands-on training on topics like mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on CPR manikins. These same manikins will be used in training for performing chest compressions, breathing techniques, and other first-aid basics.

Attend a CPR training class and complete all the course modules and pass the assessments. Upon completing the training, you will receive your CPR certification (Statement of Attainment) on the same day. It will be issued electronically in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (conditions apply).

  1. Take a Refresher Class

As recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and Safe Work Australia, HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is only valid for 12 months and will need to be updated annually for you to keep your CPR certification current.

If you took a CPR training course a year ago, a CPR refresher course is required to renew your certification. It is a good way to keep your CPR and first aid skills sharp and a practical way to learn updates in CPR and other emergency response techniques.

This unit of competency (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is a component of the following courses:

  • HLTTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

Provide CPR course only takes 2 hours to complete and what you get from it is a set of life-saving skills that can be useful in any emergency. Start looking for an RTO like the First Aid Course Melbourne that provides accredited CPR training so you can be on your way to acquiring this valuable skill.
